The New Normal in Caring for You



As we move back and forth through the Covid Recovery Phases, our hours of operation must fluctuate based on the Provincial Mandate. We are often not able to update our website with these changes quickly enough. Our social media platforms, particularly Facebook, are perfect for staying up to date with ongoing changes based on our Covid Operations Plan. If you are unable to follow us on Facebook, please give us a call or send us an email if you need to make any confirmations.

Procedures & Protocols

At NAKAI, we are working hard to ensure the safety of our artists, our guests and our communities.

As we continue to operate through this pandemic, we have developed and will regularly update our ‘New Normal’ Operations Plan. This plan was prepared with reference to the guidance provided by the Province of New Brunswick, the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, and WorkSafe NB. We have also incorporated the recommendations and requirements set forth by the CANB and CMTNB Associations, which oversee the licensing of our business and our hairdressers, estheticians and registered massage therapists.

This plan will adapt as provincial and association guidance changes and as the province and the zones in which we work go in and out of the Recovery Phases.


Preparing For Your Appointment

Thank you for trusting us by making an appointment at NAKAI. We will not disappoint you. Here is what you need to know:

  • We have staggered appointments to alleviate having too many guests checking in at the same time. 
  • Wear a clean mask (it must loop behind the ears for salon services)
    • If you do not have one, or if your mask is not clean, a disposable one will be provided to you for a minimal charge.
    • Please remember that when we are in the Orange or Red Phases of Recovery, our parking lot is a public space so masks need to be worn there as well.
  • When you arrive, come on in. 
    • If we are not quite ready for you, or there are too many guests in the retail area, we will ask you to wait in your vehicle as the lounge is currently closed.
    • We will let you know when to come back in.
  • Your temperature will be taken, and we will take you through a pre-screening questionnaire.
  • You will be asked to sanitize your hands.
  • We ask that you do not bring coats, bags, or large handbags with you. Lockers and hangers/hooks will not be available. NAKAI sandals will be available.
  • For hair services, manis, pedis, facial waxing, tinting and lashes: Whatever you bring will need to fit and remain in your lap during the service.
  • For massages, body treatments, facials and body waxing services: You will be asked to change in the treatment room and you will place your clothing and belongings in a personal storage container that will be kept in the room with you for the duration of your service.
  • Please come alone, no additional guests will be permitted with you at your appointment.
  • All of our service providers wear masks (unless required not to by a physician in which case they take other precautions). We have added the extra protection of plexiglass and/or shields for our face-to-face services.
  • You will be required to wear your mask for your entire visit unless the service requires you to remove it. In that case you will be asked to remove it just for the time that the service provider requires access to that part of your face.
  •  We are not serving beverages at this time if you are within two meters of another guest or artist.
  •  If you would like to avoid checkout completely, we suggest pre-paying for your appointment. Adding the industry average 18% gratuity would be appreciated.
  •  If you have two or more of the following symptoms, please self-isolate, call 811 and call us to cancel your appointment for now: Fever above 38°C/100.4°F, new or worsening cough, sore throat, runny nose, headache, new onset fatigue, new onset muscle pain, diarrhea, loss of taste, loss of smell.
  •  If your appointment is within 14 days of travel outside of New Brunswick or to an Orange Zone and you do not have a written exemption that you can bring on the day of your appointment, please self-isolate and reschedule your appointment.
  •  If you have had contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 within 14 days of your appointment or are awaiting your own test results, please self-isolate and reschedule your appointment.


Our Team Commits To:

  • Undergo health and travel screening before every shift.
  • Have their temperatures checked before each shift. Temperatures are required to be re-checked every five hours and/or every time the artist re-enters the location. 
  • Always wear a mask.
  • Wear a shield or be behind a barrier for face-to-face interactions.
  • As always, clean and disinfect all tools and implements with medical-grade disinfectant before and after every appointment.
  • As always, clean and disinfect all stations, surfaces and treatment rooms before and after every guest appointment.
  • As always, wash their hands before and after every appointment and often throughout the day.
  • As always, change and sanitize linens after every guest.


Limited Service Availability

We take pride in going above and beyond for our guests at every moment, however COVID-19 still affects some of our services and we do not want to disappoint you. Face masks are required to be worn at all times. We will continue to accommodate most services and packages requested, but the experience may still be affected by slight changes.

The following services remain impacted:

  • Little Royals Day
  • Gourmet snacks & beverages during our packages (we can present alternatives)
